Ottawa, Ontario, Canada – February 19, 2014 – Save The Archives (SaveTheArchives.com) is proud to announce that meetings took place with Ambassador Eleftherios Anghelopoulos at the official Embassy of Greece to Canada in Ottawa, Ontario - resulting in even stronger awareness for the global campaign working to preserve and digitize Greece’s migration history called SaveTheArchives.com.
The meeting took place at the Embassy on February 19, 2014 between the founder of SaveTheArchives.com, Georgios Stroumboulis, and the Greek Ambassador to Canada, Eleftherios Anghelopoulos, along with members of his staff – including Deputy Head of Mission, Lambros Kakissis, and Economic & Commercial Affairs Counsellor, Pelagia Sousiopoulou. Mr. Stroumboulis introduced the global initiative’s mission and outlined the hurdles and progress so far in raising the needed funds to start the digitization process.
The goal of the meeting was to better communicate to the Ambassador and his team the importance of this initiative and to brainstorm possible avenues of promotion to Greeks living in Canada.
SaveTheArchives.com was launched over a year ago with the intent to raise €25,000 to help digitize the more than 200,000 entry archives of Greeks who migrated from Greece to the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe. Promoting the importance of preserving this piece of history, SaveTheArchives.com has seen support coming in from around the world and from the diplomatic community. All the entry archives are temporarily housed in the basement of the International Organization for Migration in Athens until SaveTheArchives.com raises the needed funds to protect them through digitization.
Those interested in donating and/or promoting the SaveTheArchives.com initiative can do so by checking out www.SaveTheArchives.com.
